Aquaglide 5 (Russian Federation patent N 47528, chief designer Sinitsyn D.N.) is a small passenger ekranoplan, classified by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as ekranoplan type A. Its design provides for cruising movement modes only at low (surface effect) altitudes from the water surface, the operational altitude value for this ekranoplan is 0.15 - 0.30 m.<br /><br />The prototype of Aquaglide-5 is small ekranoplan Amphistar (Xtreme Xplorer) (www.amphistar.com), created by the same group of designers under leadership of chief designer Sinitsyn D.N. in 1995, certified by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and constructed between 1995 and 1997 in Nizhny Novgorod.
