Uninstalling Internet Explorer?

Whadya think would happen if I un-installed IE and all its vestiges thru add/remove programs, then re-downloaded it thru my FireFox connection?

This might be a good way to clear the slate of whatever issues that I have been encountering like lock ups and inoperative iexplore.exe icons. As I mentioned the only way I can currently open IE is thru the Windows Update link at the top of the Start button box. Any Big Blue E links long ago quit working. Others that I constructed now open FireFox and even if I go find the iexplore.exe in windows explore, it just flashes a blank white page which quickly goes away.

Keep in mind that I had this link problem before I over wrote IE7 with IE8 (and before I downloaded FF v10.0) and that did not solve that particular problem nor any of the freeze-up issues.

Re: Uninstalling Internet Explorer?

It is not easy to completely uninstall IE, you can't do it through windows, you have to use a third party application to do it, after windows 95, it is not advisable to uninstall IE as there are some features of the operational system that depend on IE, as Microsoft has progressed with windows releases, they have integrated IE into the op system of the computer. As much as I dislike IE, I would not uninstall it on my machines, if you are really that deep in the hole, then back up your files and do a new install of windows, you will have far less trouble.

Ok, MT. I thought that IE could be heavily integrated with Windows. I guess there is no easy way. It's back to square one.

Thanks

Boom as I said, if you can do it, just back your data files up and then reinstall windows, that is a pretty painless way to go, another thing, if you have your original XP installation disk, you can do a repair install that won't hurt your data files and that should get you back to where you were. If you don't have a installation disk, I can send you a legal OEM installation disk for XP SP 3 that should be able to repair your situation, I am an OEM Microsoft Development member and have legal copies of OEM versions of windows going back to windows 3.0, so I am sure I have something that could help you get back to where you want to be.

Hey Boom before you do anything do this
From start button go to Control Panel
click on Programs
click on Programs + Features
now in the left pane
click on View installed updates
See what you have you might be able to go passed IE 7
to maybe IE6 lol's
dump them then go to updates and run a new clean copy of IE and updates, patches and crits
Plus IE8 has a button up by address bar for compatibility view.....if web site your on is screwy click it

Dolluper, don't have no stinking 'Progams' folder in 'Control Panel'! I don't know if have a 'classic' view has anything to do with it? When I open Control Panel or open anything therein, there is no left pane.
