Re: underwater led

I haven't installed any on my own boat yet, but I have put LEDs on a friends jet boat. He opted for the high intensity LED flood ozniums. They work well, and are not too expensive. Check out www.oznium.com.

I've been looking at this project, too. Have you taken a look at the one that installs in the drain plug? The ones from oznium look interesting but I would be concerned about use in salt water based on the customer reviews.

Re: underwater led

Mind if I ask why? I'm not being malicious, just curious if it's just for looks, for fishing, for night time swimming, or another reason I'm not thinking of?

I'll get some pics as soon as I can. I'll subscribe to the post and update it after I load pics.

Good find! +1 on the pics request. How long have you had them? What are your water conditions and how well do they work? There is a HUGE difference between say the Upper Chesapeake and the Florida Keys...

This is the kicker. I have had them in for around a year. Very bright. Where I boat (the St. John's River), the water is brown and tannic. The lights don't show up that well at all. When I take the boat around to Daytona, we spend a few days in St. Augustine, which is right at the inlet. The water there is a beautiful light green/aqua. The lights cover the entire area between the aft of the boat and the dock. This is about 10'x13'. Beautiful blue lights and the fish immediately come up behind the boat and stay all night.

I don't fish from this boat, but I put them in strictly for the nighttime effect. Nothing but compliments on it. When I pull the boat next week, I'm adding 2 super white lights in with the blue. I already have the 3 way switch installed, so when I flip the switch up, I get blue. Flip it down, bright white. I'll post those pics when complete. The white should be bright regardless of the water conditions. It's like looking into the headlight of a car.

I have an extra light...here is a pic I just took in the garage with 1 - 6 lamp LED, hooked to a jump box.

Re: underwater led

Holy crap that's bright! Almost hurts just looking at the pic! My local water sounds similar, so I am not sure I would get much out of them. That said, there was a 50+ foot sportfish in Annapolis last year with a pair of the white underwater lights. I'd guess it was showing a solid 15-20' behind the boat. Wonder what those were...and how much they cost! I'm guessing more than $50 a pop...
