unburned oil with muffs

Had to replace WP and also replaced the pressure relief valve. In the process stripped 1 screw on the PRV. I retapped to 7 MM and it went OK. I had to remove the CDI to get to the bolt hole in the outer exhaust cover to retap. When I had everything back together, I put on the muff and it fired right up but very rough and smoking exhaust and oil/water covered ground.
I don't know what I could have done to cause this. I have rechecked all bullet connections and ground connections. I don't have a remote starter and not sure how to make one to check spark. Fuel pumps are new.
Once started it quickly dies and I can not keep it ideling.
Where do I start??? It's either a fuel or ignition problem. I can't help but feel something changed during this repair. All oil components seem to be operating right. No broken links and oil tanks properly full.
Please help.

Re: unburned oil with muffs

I have triple checked all connenctions. unpluged and repluged. All are color coded so its fairly straight forward. I bought a spark test unit but I'm not sure how to attach a remote starter. Could someone offer me instructions on how to do this. I'm also going to check compression as soon as I can figure out the hook up for the remote starter.
Thanks

Unplug the keying wire from the solinoid and touch to the hot wire on the solinoid to turn over. You can make a switch to do this if you desire. Two alligator clips wired to a switch will work also.
