O.k. here's the deal :

I have a 1993 70hp Johnson, my friend and I were working on the carbs and changing spark plugs. Well to make a long story short he forgot to put the spark plugs back in and I have the Silence cover off and I went ot go start it and PUFF FIRE ON THE ENGINE .

Thank God I had a fire extinguisher with me and put that out rather quickly took about a minute. Friend running around trying to put it out with his shirt

Put it all back together and it cramked right up.

So here is the question, do you think its ok and what do you recommend I look for. Ok let the fun begin!!:redface:

If it is running properly, blow all the extinguisher dust off and use it.

Nothing like the smell of burnt plastic in the morning !!!

Well, you already ran it, so it can't be too bad. My 2 cents worth is to look for any burnt insulation on wires, or any deformed plastic, replace anything that's affected. Also, clean up the dust from the fire extinguisher, you don't want that getting into the carbs.

And I know that you'll never ever again try to start an engine that's being worked on without first looking it over very thoroughly to make sure it's safe.

What if some of the Dust gets into the carbs can they be rebuilt? Oh just not a good way to end my day. Is there any product on the market that I can use to spray down the engine after I shoot it with air? And do I need to disconnect anything before doing so.

Take out the screw plugs covering the jets and give 'em a good shot of Deep Creep (Seafoam in a spray can) through there, should do the trick.

I'd probably disconnect the battery............

Try using a paint brush and brush the powder and use a air compressor or vac to get the loose stuff off...

I have used a product called Zep's citrus degreaser on my engine..spray it on...let sit and use a pump sprayer with water in it to rinse it.....that way not a lot of pressure to force water into places....then after i wash it...i take my leaf blower and blow dry it...never had a problem doing it
