Hello.
I have used umbrella rigs for bluefish and stripers, but never in fresh water like in the great lakes.
Did any of you good people ever try to troll an umbrella rig for fresh water salmon lake trout or off structure bass, muskies or pike??
Is it legal in fresh water??
Thanks,Mops

Re: Umbrella rig

That's a good question rolmops, I have a similar question. I was thinking of using a mackerel sabaki rig to jig for perch this winter on the frozen lake, anyone tried that?

Re: Umbrella rig

Use umbrella's with sassy shad on Texoma, well, the boss does, I haven't made the trip yet.
He catches the snot outa' strippers on that thing....problem is, here in Kansas it's illegal to fish with unless you cut the hooks off of 5 of the 7 lures attached. Wardens consider this one lure with 7 hooks here. Can only have 2 lures per line with no more than 2 trebles or 2 attached hooks in any fasion to one lure.....works good on schooling whites and wipers too!!! :D

Re: Umbrella rig

Most of the stripe guides use umbrella rigs here in Alabama. I am not aware of any regulatory limitations in using this rig but I am sure the rules vary from state to state.

Re: Umbrella rig

same question here- use umbrellas for striper. the family vacations up in ontario on a "big" lake (i consider it big, but it's called bob's lake and not very big for canada). we troll for walleye every evening, and usually use just simple bucktails. think i'd have any luck with umbrellas rigged with small shads?
