Umbrella holder

I thought I would show how I managed to make an umbrella holder for the front of the pontoon boat. I drilled through the deck and bolted one floor flange on the deck and the other one under the deck as a bolting flange to give the stand some strength. I used long enough pipe nipple to hold the umbrella handle up straight. Now all I do is screw the pipe nipple into the floor flange and stick the handle into it. When I remove the umbrella and unscrew the pipe nipple all that is left sticking up on the deck is the floor flange. The bottom of the umbrella handle rests on the deck surface inside the pipe flange. The first picture shows the pipe flange bolted to the floor. The next picture is of the umbrella in the stand and the last picture is how the handle fits inside the pipe nipple. P9220002.jpgP9220003 (3).jpgP9220004.jpg

Looks like that works pretty well. I will keep that in mind if mine don't hold up. The wind we have had so far just makes mine spin around which is kind of cool to see. I think it was meant to be the kind of umbrella that you can lay on it's side on the ground and open the side flaps. Ace had them on sale for $15.

Re: Umbrella holder

We didn't have any problems with it rocking but a big gust of wind came up and it lifted clear of the boat and turned it upside down overboard. I was able to grab the pole and bring it back on board and so we attached the strings that are used to steady it. The wife said that it would have made a good video of it flying up in the air like a kite. I hadn't had a chance to reply because we were on a fishing trip for the last week and a half.
