Im hooking up my main power to my 150 and my manual says very little on it. Just a put it here and the pic is way too zoomed in to determine where it is. I found this post... http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=30;t=006351#000000 and there are pics in there for a 115. Mine looks very similar.

Do I attach my main power wire there and ground to the starter? There was mention of a fuse missing for the pos power cable. Do i need this as well?

Thanks All!!

Mike

Yes, the +12V battery cable connects to the starter relay as shown in that pic. The fused lead is not in the battery cable, but in a different lead that attaches to the same terminal. Battery ground usually connects to a starter mounting bolt.

on the original cable the ring terminal that attached to the starter relay had a 16 Ga wire crimped with the batt cable. was about 3" long and had 1/2 the main power fuse (20 amp) attached.
if the fuse is missing nothing much will happen. you can add any water tight inline fuse as long as its rated at 20 amps and marine use rated.
the starter has a lug on it at the top. its a set of ridges with an 8mm threaded hole in the middle.

try to look in the rigging guide, there were a few years when the battery cables went to a terminal block on the stbd aft side of the engine.
I just dont recall each variation.

Re: UGH! Yam. 150 1994 - still having problems

Would the starter still have the notch at the top of it for the Neg power cable if I the main power goes to the starboard aft section?

Mine definately has the notch and bolt.

I also have the wiring diagram that came with the engine originally. It only shows how to relay the batteries and set up the gauges, not where to hook the cables up. Kinda frustrating. Im going to take a picture and then take it to my local shop. Then they can tell me. I'll let ya'all know how it goes.

Thanks
Mike

So the shop says that I should put the +12v power cable to the part that is shown in the photo attached. The problem is that it looks like it would barely fit. Is this the right place?

It has a wire with a 30 amp fuse coming off the same post.

Sorry to bring this up again, but I know first hand what will happen if you connect things in the wrong way. I just want to be sure before moving forward.

Thanks!

Mike - photo link below

http://home.comcast.net/~michael_estey/engine_power_connect.jpg

That is correct. What you're looking at is the starter solenoid, and above it is first down, then up trim solenoids...
