Is it true that the expansion tool is ONLY required for the exhaust bellows installation and NOT the u-joint bellows?

If so, that leads me to believe that it slides on "fairly easy"........

Not really looking forward to this project.

that's the way it worked out for my 1 drive. yes.

i didn't find that to be perticularly true. however. when i left the bellhousing loose from the gimble ring. allowing the bellhousing to move further forward than it should, then it went on fairly easy. however the bellows are kinda stiff rubber and you do have to expand (stretch) it over the gimble housing. not real easy but doable. + it's kinda a mess cause ya got the bellows adhiesive on it... so a sticky mess. be sure the groove in the bellows mates into the slot on the gimble housing..
your job may be easier than some since if i remember right ya don't have the water hose to deal with. that would be a plus cause it's very close to being in the way right at the nipple that passes through the gimble housing..

the job will likely make ya swear and yer fingers will hurt after your done with the deed..

Thanks ziggy......you're right, I don't need to mess with the water hose......:)

Which side did you install first....the transom (gimble ring) side or the bellhousing?

I have read the manual and I know the transom side of the bellows has "flat" spots on the sides.........thought it might be easier to install the transom side first???

Re: U-Joint Bellows Install

since nobodys saying anything. i'm gonna assume that by the book is the way to go fbt. seems like it'd be a drag to have it mounted to the gimble housing then trying to put it on the bellhousing that moves up and down. ya'd be chasing it trying to catch it to get the bellows on, and when ya did catch it, it be all tilted up, so not a straight shot at it.. i'd go for the book.. it ain't that bad, it'll just make your fingers hurt getting it stretched out and into place.... imho....
