If its a Warranty issue then you bet your bottom dollar there is a " book hour rate " ..

There is a flat rate that Mercruiser for example will pay their dealer for warranty work, but that number also changes if there are extenuating circumstances.
These are example numbers, not accurate.
If a starter needs replaced under warranty, they (Merc) gives the dealer 1 hr.
If the dealer has to pull the engine to get to the starter, the have to get pre-authorized by merc to do that job and they have a flat rate for that too. But there are also times that that number has to upgraded.
But it's all done on a "Per Job" basis. There is no flat rate book for the average marine engine repair shop for the end customer.
