I want to start tying my own jigs for stripe fishing in north Alabama. I have watched a few videos and printed out some information off the internet. I still don't get the tying pattern for the skirts. Does anyone have any infomation that would assist me in the process of tying these jigs? Ay info would be appreciated!

I tie a lot of flies and jigs, what is it you don't understand? whether it's Alaska to Mexico you try to match the hatch. Basically what is the main food source. Eels, baitfish? A good tying book will show you tecniques

I dont fully understand the tying part of the process (wrapping the string). i have tied a few and they come apart. Maybe it is the string i am using. it is some i got when my grandfather passed away. He tied all of our jigs. I understand the mathing of the food source. Maybe you could give me some info on the actual tying procedure. Thanks in advance.

If you pull on the string with your hands, the string should not break. If it does then it is old. Make sure your rap is tight and that you finish you knot with clear nail polish or the like.

Firstly, If your using bucktail, don't place too much hair on at once. for a strong wrap I like to go around several times and put a drop or two of "UNI-LAK" head cement or the like it's fast drying and soaks in well. If you find that the hair stands up too high ,wrap towards the back this will pull the hair down. If, when you start to laydown your materials, you pull to tight on the thread it will cause the material to stand as in muddler minnows. my best advice is to use a good quality thread. I use "Big Fly" size B. Try different types of pressure on the thread and note the effects. you will catch on fast. I had a friend who tied 500 royal coachmen flies for a tournament till he produced the one he wanted to enter. Wrap your thread with steady pressure back to front and watch the size of the finished head. Practice
