Tying On Lure Question...

Is there any reason that most people tie knots to a lure instead of, say, a snap swivel. This, of course, would make it much easier and faster to change lures. Is the action different? Just wondering...

Shane

Re: Tying On Lure Question...

I believe that a snap does change the action of some lures, Shane. I use the smallest, lightest connection that is at least as strong as the line.

Often this means I use Cabelas' "no knot fast snap" for small lures that wont spin. It is made for fly fishing, but weighs next to nothing and is quite strong. It does not interfere with the action of tiny wobblers, or small surface lures. Changing lures is quick and easy.

For lures that might spin, I use only ball bearing swivels with coastlock snaps; again the smallest, lightest ones that are at least as strong as my line.

I tie everything on with a uni-knot and make all splices with double uni-knots.

Avoid, at all cost, cheap safety-pin snaps. They only open for the fish of a lifetime.

Thereare lots of reliable approaches. the above has not failed me for thirty years.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)
