I just aquired my brother-in-laws boat after being stored for 3 years. There are two major problems. Boat - 1975 Glastron 18 ft open bow.
Motor - 1976 135hp Johnson with tilt and trim.
First problem...Motor stored in full upright
position. After installing new battery, lowered
motor, raised it and lowered it again. Stopped working after that. Power to relay ok. Power after
relay to plug ok. Motor for tilt will not turn.
Second problem...Steering froze up.
Everything working prior to storage.

sokkernuyt,

Steering Cable. You will have to replace that.

Power Tilt. You may have to remove the motor (tilt) and see if it is free to turn. If so, you'll have to go deeper.

djohns19 ,

Thanks for the reply. The motor does turn freely.
Internal to the motor, there seems to be what looks like an internal relay contact where the power comes in. It was pretty crusted up. I cleaned the contact surfaces up, but now I do not remember what the gap was. If this does not make
sense I will pull the motor apart again and send
a picture of what I am talking about.
