Has anyone converted their manifold from the one-piece to the two piece? What did you pay? Or have you done it yourself? Can anyone with a wrench do it? Where's the best place to find the parts? Thanks.

Re: two piece manifold

I assume you're talking about a mid 90's V6 exhaust manifold set up. Many many have been change to 2 piece (and very sensible to do it too). You also have the opportunity to put a couple of the new 'dry joint' manifolds on. I have listed the parts required in this forum a while back. Just be careful, you need the earlier 7 degree down angle elbows, and the latest elbows are 15 degree, so make sure you get the 7 degree.

It's easy enough to do, but there are quite a few parts required and it's not that cheap, but cheaper than a new engine (which those 'batwings' will make you buy)....

Well I just bought a 97 Regal 20' runabout. I was told a new engine was put it in 2004 and my mechanic confirmed it was an 04 engine as it had Vortec heads?? He said it had the one piece manifold. I can read instructions and turn a wrench, but I'm not much of a mechanic.

Re: two piece manifold

I have to ask: What's wrong with the one piece mannys? Why the concern? I've had mine for years and no problems.

Allow me to chime in ,a bit late though. I talked to the owner of GLM out at the west coast and he said the reason Merc stopped making the one pc. manifolds was because Merc lost the vendor that makes them , for whatever the reason . GLM said that he started making them because in northern California were not draining them and hence they were cracking , Probably with the engine too . GLM's were much more cost effective than buy the ones from Merc. . He also went on to say that there is really nothing wrong with them other than they were no longer available from Merc and had to go back to the previous ones ( two piece ) . I also have a set one one piece manifolds on my 4.3 and was curious Remember that there is a lot of these engines running around on the Great Lakes were corrosion is not so rampant

They (Merc) dropped the vendor! They are paper thin & was costing warranty a big dollar due to corrosion. That's pretty much word for word from a Merc rep.
