Two outdrives came with boat...which to use?

Hello-
I just acquired my first boat.....in pieces. It is a 1968 Chrysler Courier bowrider w/ a 120hp iron duke 4 cyl., and two outdrives Serial numbers:: 2265559 is the original, 3565495 is the other. What I am trying to find out is if the two outdrives are interchangeable. I have purchased a Seloc manual, but I can't find anything in there that says if the later model outdrive can be used. The housings are exactly the same from cap to prop, but the older one has some parts that the newer one doesn't have.
Parts list says that is the -arm assembly, reverse hook, drive shaft housing-
Seems to be the only visible difference
Anyway, Thanks in advance for any info anyone can give on this...Sure I will be posting many many more questions as I try to get her together and in the water.

some pictures would help as chysler actually did some stern drives way back when.
and the "Iron Duke" was NEVER marinized so that option is OUT.

Thank you captk. Will check it out! I wondered about the ADULTS ONLY section, but I haven't gotten there yet:cool:

Thanks rodbolt. Will get pics up asap, camera battery is dead, charging....
I really know very little about this or any other boat. All I know is what I was told by the friend that gave the boat to us for my Autistic daughter's pleasure-A gift of Love- so to speak...He told us that was an iron duke block, and several people that I have asked about the boat asked if it had the iron duke...anyway, I am here to learn, so any info is greatly appreciated!! I fell in love with this old girl as soon as I looked her over. I want to get her in the water by next summer at the latest, but I do realize that this is a big undertaking for people who have never had a boat. There is a little glass work and paint to be done, but the majority of work will be the outdrive and some engine stuff.
Also I would love to find another set of the original Chrysler emblems that are on the stern (both sides).
I will post od pics as soon as the camera is ready-and I can figure out how...:D

The Chryslers are really bad for bearings in the outdrive. My dad replaced every 2 years.

Just letting you know.

Good Lord, I didn't mean to cause a wake over the block...LOL:eek:
Did just post one pic of her in my profile.

I guess the "name" of the block really means nothing to getting her in the water, so I will stick to: 1968 120 hp MerCruiser I/L 4 cyl 151 cid:p
I'm just tickled to have somewhere to ask questions and get answers!!

Sorry, I guess the cid on this engine is 153.

Thanks Glastron- good to know to watch for. The later model OD that came with it has supposedly been rebuilt, but not counting on anything... as, anything could happen once we get into her.

Re: Two outdrives came with boat...which to use?

Ok, links work.
I put a red rectangle around the area in question in each pic...
The first pic is the original od that came with boat (far as I have been told). Marked as MerCruiser 120.
The second pic is of the second od that my friend got before he gave us the boat. Marked as a MerCruiser 120/140.
Both serial #'s listed above in thread.
The info I got out of the manual says that in the later model od's this group of parts had been eliminated for later models with power t&t, I believe that both od's have both power t&t.
But nothing about whether or not the od's can be swapped.
It is the later model od that supposedly was rebuilt, so I am hoping to have the ability to swap.
The earlier model is MUCH heavier than the later.
Also, is it ok to strip and repaint the housing of the original od? If so, what type of paint? My generous friend had spray painted it in prep to camo, hence the olive drab color:rolleyes:
NOTE: I did speak with the guy that was supposed to have rebuilt the od before he knew I had received the boat. He owned it and sold it to my other friend (who gave it to me) when he originally acquired the boat, about 2 years ago.
Is there any way to tell by looking?
Thanks, Wendi and Steve
