Two batteries or three?

Ok, so a question on batteries...

I am planning on running one of these guys...

...which tells me that I'll need two deep cycle batteries. Besides that big ol trolling motor there I really won't have a whole lot going on. Pretty much just GPS/Fishfinder, nav lights, bilge pump when needed, etc. No livewell pump or anything like that.

So here is my question...

Is it necessary for me to add a third? A starting/cranking battery?

Or, am I ok to simply use the two deep cycles for starting?

I have read a little but there seems to be a bit of a debate.

Two vs. three batteries makes a difference with my rebuild process so I want to get it right, eh!

What little I have read it seems the ACR seems to be a cool way to go too.

Thoughts?

Those are going to draw a lot of current and for that reason alone I would go with 3 batteries with 2 dedicated just to the trolling motors. Keep your electronics on the starting battery. They don't like that sudden surge that you get when you step on the go pedal for the trolling motor(s).

1 starter
2 deep cycle
and a very good smart charger to recharge at home

Re: Two batteries or three?

Thanks! Much appreciated!

I'll need to save my pennies for a while, or, find an eBay deal anyway.

Cheers
