Twin Screws or One Big One

Starting to narrow it down. One boat has twin Johnson 150 that are 2 stroke (400 hrs) one boat has a 4 stoke 225 Yamaha (600 hrs) which would one pick. Both seem to be in good shape. Thanks for the help.

Same boat ???? what is it ???? and what is the HP rating of the boats ???

For me it would depend on the kind of boat, its year, and the Max H.P. Rating

Depends on how you use it.

Deep/offshore and with increased risk from other longer/farther journeys, then that justifies having twins.

Near-shore and in-shore fishing, etc, then go with a single.

One thing to consider is that the single engine should be more economical on fuel.

225 HP isn't enough ponies for the Pro-line. The Hydra could use more ponies but will suffice.

Another thing to consider, the boat with twin 150's probably won't get up on just one if you should have a problem. If you were really far out you could basically troll in on one if you had the gas, but you'd be out there all day anyway. If I were rigging a new boat I'd go with the one bigger motor and a big *** radio and a membership to Seatow, but on a used boat I'd get which ever combination was in better shape that I felt was more reliable.

twins, a 150 will push a 24 foot boat ok and will get you back to dock in a reasonable amount of time.
