It depends on the boat. Tunnel or V? If its a V, where are the lifting strakes?

Why twins in the first place? Not room for three?

LOL ... as a matter of fact, I could put auxilliary brackets on both sides and run FOUR engines ...

Its a Crestliner 18, which wasnt too lively with the 35, hence the name Chugboat Annie ... however, the 40 Super Sea Horse is a visual twin to the 35, so 75 horses should do the trick nicely

Next spring, I should have the 125 and 10 horse ready to go on Hydrophobia, the 18 aluminum Starcraft

The 125 originally came with the Starcraft, and its a dimensionally huge boat, deep freeboard, beamy, and as light as a 12 foot gamefisher, the guy that sold it said it was a 50 MPH plus boat when the motor ran, lol, since I can easily lift the bare hull up off the trailer, I can believe that

That dammned Crestliner tho, even back in my Incredible Hulk days, I could only lift that by pulling back the levers on a crane

strong crane at that!

cmon, humor me, ill get em both running somehow! I did a search on the subject and came up with nothin, I think there is just enough room on the transon so they will both fit ... but is that too close? they would be nearly touching

Also, and this may be a bit tacky, but would those old style controls bolt together to make a dual control unit?

thanks

I have twin merc 60s on my boat but its a cat so the motors line up with the hulls.I would say you need to get the motors as far apart as can be fitted on your transom so the props arent operating in water disturbed by the other prop. But not so wide that they fall off the side off the boat :) If it looks right it probably is.With the motors wide apart you can use them to help in low speed turns :) .My controls are tandem mounted so I can operate both motors together takes a bit of getting used to playing with two levers :D A little hint if your piston is too small you can take up some of the slack by pulling the ring apart ;)

Best way to set the tie-bar distance is to leave the port engine loose, no steering hookup. Run the boat at cruise, the loose motor will track at the optimum toe out or toe in distance. Measure the distance and adjust the tie bar to fit. Every boat and rig is different, and this is the only way to get it accurate.

sharkcat, damn you, yer trying to bait me so I get in trouble with JB, lol : oX

Seahorse, (GREAT name, by the way, lol) wont the motor want to go one way or the other? it will just run in the "groove" it wants to run in? the things you learn, lol

The one woman water sports parade wants me to go to her friends today and go swimming with her, lol, and call me crazy, but despite showering with her this morning, I cant wait to see her in a wet bikini again, maybe im crazy, lol, but I love that

but it just might be a luuuuunatic yer lookin for!

Ill have to get better bait  I have my motors set for 1mm toe in tracks great.I dont think there is any rule to the spacing of the engines on a mono hull but I would think they have to be mounted symetrically to give the best running characteristics good luck.If you push the shaft in & it pops out again you know your indent spring is working :D :D

but if it falls out, (fallout) you need a shorter stroke or a tighter choke ...

Joe said that there is a detentless dog, so if you do it detentless doggie style, it might not pop out ... or in, for that matter!

:D
