I need to replace the 4 Pos (Off, 1, 2, Both) selector switch in my 1994 22 Ft. C-Dory. I have twin Honda BF-45's (1994). I don't know if the current switch has the alternator disconnect feature or not. Do I need it, what does it do? I use two Marine Batteries and currently don't distinguish between Starting and House functions. I know I should, according to the things I have read, have one Starting and one House but don't. The batteries are only one year old, will replace them eventually.

I 'dd guess that you are running twins as a safety measure. With that in mind ,I would be sure that each engine has it's own starting battery and the electronics work off a deep cycle. That is in a perfect world.More likely you are fireing both these engines off with the same battery then keeping the setting on both while doing whatever it is you do.Your battery switch is an isolator if it is used properly.

Thanks Hondon. I still don't know the difference between the two kinds of battery switches. One has an "alternator disconnect" and one doesn't. What does that do? Take a look at the West Marine on line catalog.
