Hello.
I am in the process of setting up a 17 foot aluminum duratech (1964) with twin 35 horse 1957 seahorses.
I figure that most of the time both engines will be running and some trolling might be done on one engine.
Should I go with the 10x12 props or since it is twins with 10 3/8 x 13 1/4 or maybe higher?
It is sure to be a beauty once she hits the water, that is if you like old glory.
Thanks in advance for any advice and opinions.
Rolmops.
ps.Castawayray,I just had one with some nice old country brew.

I'd think the same things would apply for a dual engine set-up as a single. Prop it so both engines turn in the top portion of their power band with an "average" load. Are the props counter-rotating? If not, that might make a difference, I don't know. It's just gonna be trial and error.

g'luck & c/6

Hooty

Re: twin engines and props.

I do remember my grandfather having quite a bit of beer with his mops, lol, I was thirsty the rest of the day after having them, lol

course he was a grand old dude, "dont tell yer gramma boy" as he would slip me a few beers

Ill be keeping a close watch on this, cause I am in the process of getting the 18 Starcraft set up with twin Sea Horses too, 35 and 40 horse, and I have a spare 40 horse powerhead that I think would fit on the 35 leg ... if it works, it would be a 1960 40 powerhead on a 59 35 leg

eh, Ill find out

good luck!

PS seems to me that you can prop bigger cause there are two engines, but you cant prop too big in case you need to get home on one engine

always a quandary!

Hello Ray.
Have a care with the 1960 40 horse. That year still used the 35 connecting rod or crankshaft,I'm not sure which. They used to blow.OMC put heavier ones in later 40 models.
I'll keep you informed on the prop action.

ah, didnt know that, the biggie sized problem I think I am going to have is concerning the one tube vs two tube water pump situation ...

I already have a lot of parts for making it happen, just have to bite the bullet and start breaking bolts, lol, Ive been soaking the motors down with PB BLaster in preparation for making it all happen, do you know if the starter for the 60 40 horse would transplant onto the 59 35? I would love to leave Ol Johnnys alter ego nickname behind, that being the infamous Yankenstien, lol, the struggle string monster (shes an easy pull, but whew, when she gets balky, its an aerobics class from Helll, lol)

Those starters are a bit longer.
Just count the teeth on the sprocket and if it is the same, pretty sure it is,it will just fit in there.

I have a feeling that this whole thing is going to be more expensive than I thought, apparently my grand idea to use junkyard car solenoids wont go, marine ones work differently .. .eh, maybe I can find a boat junkyard, lol

and so it goes

Rolmops, check your private messages. I'd love to hear more about the Duratech boat in particular. We don't have the 17 foot Duratech yet in the gallery, so give me a shout. Pretty rare it seems. There are a lot of Sealines left around, but not a lot of the 60's models like yours and mine.
