Hi all!
Searching for boats, I tried out an amazingly clean
1999 Sundancer 290 from Searay. Boat looked 2 years old,
really shows SR build quality. However, there is only one snag
from pulling the trigger: WOT tests yielded 52KPH (32MPH)
at WOT.
The engines were tuned up last fall, the gas in the talk is one year old.
*Note that the engines are at 950 hours*.
It has four blade aluminum props with Alpha 1 Gen II drives.
When at WOT, the engines never got passed 4100 RPM.
The engines started on a dime and run super smooth and even.
Question:
Is the speed reading normal? This was GPS provided.
Where should I look to improve top speed?
How can I know that the engines are starting to
lose compression? Will it leave a white deposit on the oil
cap like on old cars?
In every other way, this is the boat for me, but I cannot
buy it only to have 7K of engine rebuilds soon after...
Thanks for any insight.
