hey gents !

i got here much help in regards to find the correct prop and now have focused on two solutions for my volvo 3.0 SX drive :

turning point hustler 15/1/4X15 vs solas amita 3 in 15X15 .

which prop would you prefer ? hustler says its the only vented alu prop and has an aggresive cup, solas is known for building good overall propellers.

you can find the very helpful thread in finding the right prop for my boat here:

Solas also makes available a 15-1/4 X 15. Actually, Solas offers three different diameters in their 15 pitch aluminum 3 blade prop.

I would not recommend a vented prop on a runabout. You want avoid ventilation; not cause it.

I have a light alum boat with a 90 hp engine, WOT wake in Avatar. It runs at 50 on a cold day with me. Back when I had engine problems that I was unaware existed....blamed it on other things, I have a 13 1/4 by 24 SS Ballistic that was a little sloppy on the hole shots.

I decided to port the prop to help liven up the hole without messing with the top end like a blade pitch change would cause.

In short, even though I only bored one per blade 1/4" diameter holes (small for ports) in it, at high trim positions, like I normally ran, in a fair chop it would break loose somewhat (didn't before) until I tucked in in a little. I am running the engine about 1 1/2" above the bottom but there is a strip of angle alum over the center area (keel if you will) which causes some abnormalities leading to cavitation/ventilation.

Whatever, it wasn't there before I vented so I agree with Mr. jestor68.

You may not need the vents on that sterndrive, since a 4 cycle motor can make more torque at low RPM. You may need the extra rake from the Hustler prop.

I used a vented, hi-rake prop on my MerCruiser Alpha, but I plugged the vents with small screws + nuts. Worked very well.
