I am wondering if it is alright to turn the flywheel by hand when winterizing after shooting a little fogging oil in the cylinders thru the spark plug holes. I also (perhaps mistakenly) think this clears any water trapped in the impeller vanes avoiding freezing.

lots of folks recommend that, after you fog out through the carb. just make sure you pull both plug wires first. but you really can't use too much fogging oil.

Fogging should be done through the carburetor, on a running motor, in order to give protection to the bearings. Squirting oil in the cylinders doesn't get to the bearings. Then drain the fuel system.

The cooling system should drain by itself. but it doesn't hurt to give it a twirl to make sure.

what i have found it to raise and lower the motor several times, this allow any water trapped in the cooling system to work it ways out. leave motor in down position.
