I just got done rewiring a utility trailer lights with a 20' wiring harness. The kind that has a constant wire going to both lights and a yellow for left turn and green for right turn. I ran the wires to the lights and put the ground on a bolt on the frame. The frame rail was sanded down before i put the ground to it. I turn on the headlights both lights work. Turn on right turn signal right blinks great and left one blinks weakly. Turn on the left turn signal left blinks great and the right blinks really weakly. Any ideas to why?

Do you have the white wire from the plug grounded to the trailer?

Typical trailer lights use the light unit mounting studs as the ground to the frame. The mount holes must be clean, free of rust, paint, etc. Wire brush, round file, dremel, you get the idea. A little dielectric grease in the plug helps, too.

DEFF BAD GROUND - probly on the lights themselves so check that..

is this a tilting boat trailer ?

if so run a ground wire from the main tongue to the subframe ( the part that tilts ) what happens is your relying on a bolt to act as a ground from the main tongue to the subframe so if u run a wire from one to the other you always have a ground through both,..

Re: turn signals messed up

thanks of the input. Found out what it was. The bolts holding on my right light on were rusted pretty bad. Got a new bolts put them on and wa la fixed the problem. Never had that happen before guess it was enough to cause my little problem.

Had a camper do the same thing. changed from double bulb rears to single bulb.Truck i was using to rewire trailor still made lights act weird. Hooked up to 4 other vehicles and lights work fine. I always hook to another vehicle first to make sure it is in the trailor and not the tow vehicle
