Turn Key Module Hot with Ignition Key off??

Aloha all - my 3.0L mercruiser engine is equipped from Mercury Remanufacturing with a TKS, build date June 2008, and powers my 1998 Sea Ray 175 Bowrider. Here's my first question: is it normal for the TKS module to start getting hot while the ignition switch is "Off"?? I think I know the answer but will wait for the experts to chime-in. Of course the 2nd question is- what is causing this? After purchasing online and reviewing Service Manual #41, it looks like there's power (or ground!?) bypassing the temp or oil pressure switch(es). Before I start diagnosis-by-replacement, can someone offer me some wisdom (and BTW, I already agree with you who - e.g., JustJason :) - who rant against carbs in general and TKS in particular!) Thanks to all the previous posts on TKS and thanks in advance for your help.

Howdy and :welcome: to iboats

No the module should not get hot or warm when the key is off. Some how voltage is being applied to the module, someone may have mis wired something.

so

So if I'm reading the electrical correctly, positive is always *on* at the TKS module, so either the temp our oil press switch is giving a false ground path? Which would be more likely? Or, maybe there's a dead short to getting in one of the wires... let me know o if I'm chasing down the right path -& thanks

Hi there, have a read under components #3,

Boatinfo - Mercruiser Service Manual nr. 41 - 2004-Up - Turn Key Start (TKS-System) - Supplement to Manual #25, #26 & #31

Boatinfo - Mercruiser Service Manual nr. 41 - 2004-Up - Turn Key Start (TKS-System) - Supplement to Manual #25, #26 & #31

Your problem should lay within the oil switch or the module itself.

Try disconnecting one at time to see if it cools off including the temp switch.

Good luck.
