Turn cap clockwise or counter clockwise to advance timing?

350 mag. Looking down on the cap from above am I turning clockwise or counter clockwise to advance the timing?<br /><br />Thanks in advance.<br /><br />Also does anyone know is the thunderbolt 1V / V ignition is similar in any way to a standard GM ignition or do mercruiser use a totally different set up?

the thunderbolt was a merc design and doesnt share any parts with GM.<br /> it is similar in the fact it takes a 12V dc input and using various methods of current switching it makes and breaks the current flow in the coil primary windings.<br /> luckily there are not but so many ways to do it.

if your thinking of replacing the TB IV/V,try the CRANE HI-6M IGNITION BOX.it clears up any fouling at idle,it will start cold the first time.and may pick up some mph.<br />DONT PLAY AROUND WITH THE TIMING.get your self a timing light,and set it correctly. LOTS of things could go wrong at high rpm.
