Dealer was telling me this is really a 50 hp outboard, how do you make it into a 50? The engine is a 2003 40 3 cylinder carb.

More or less I am simply curious, dont think I will go through with any mods.

-John

The 40D and 50D have two different blocks and crankshafts. Your 40 is going to stay a 40.

Sorry,

Thanks for the info, according to Tohatsu.com the 40 and 50 are both 697cc and share the same bore/stroke. My manual that came with the outboard is for both 40/50 as well.

Are we talking the same motors or am I just confused? Thanks for the info,

-John

The bore and stroke are the same, but the blocks have different portng and the crankshaft's have a difference as well....The engines also have different manifolds, silencers, carburetors and exhaust pipes. It would just not be cost effective to convert a 40 to a 50.
