What for? Unless you just want to see it done. For the money it would cost you could just get yourself a used 6 cyl. and put it in, you'd get more torque and probably more horsepower.

Thats what I was wondering. I found a 140 mercruiser for 100 dollars, and if I mounted it with this I was thinking I would get around 180 to 200 hp. But what I am not sure is if you can do this with a stock motor? I can't find anything on the web about this thing. It looks manufactured.

How are you going to cool that turbo?

By the looks of it, the inlet or outlet water hose runs to it. otherwise I don't know.

For every gasoline engine I know of that has a turbo version and an NA version, the 2 versions have different pistons. There's a little more involved to turbocharge an engine than bolting on. Weird item - never seen one before.
The exhaust housing does look water cooled.
The suggestion in the listing that the turbo maybe needs rebuilding is $cary. One doesn't just buy bearings off the shelf for a turbo...parts have to come from the manuf and who knows who made that one and if parts are avail.

I'm a fan of V6's for getting 180-200HP just because with 6 cyl you get more low end torque for pulling up skiers. And I like the sound better not that it matters really.

If it was $75 instead of $375, I'd bid just to look it over :)
certainly the easiest turbo in the world to install!
It actually looks well made. That's a nice big looking exhaust wheel for making lotsa boost at lower rpms... no waste gate that I can see- i wonder wha psi it makes and what the lag is like....

Well I would be tempted to play with it as well, but not for $375, and it's easy for me to say as we'd be playing with your boat not mine . . . I'd let the auction go as he probably won't get any bids, see what happens after that. Maybe contact him now so you have the correspondence in place.

Usually turboed engines actually go down in compression ratio and that's why the pistons are different. You effectively gain that back with the boost, but if you leave the pistons alone and then add boost you may increase the in cylinder pressures enough that you'll need to run high octane fuel or she'll probably knock ;)

i actually own a speed shop for a living, and play w/ turbos all day, have a huge turbo on my evolution VIII, 4cyl 2.0l car making 550awhp, was thinking about turboing my 4cyl merc, but if it came down to it i dont think id do it, i think I just like the thought of it, but a naturally aspirated motor has high compression, if you were determined to do it though, all youd have to do is run a little thicker head gasket to drop your compression and boost away.

Ya, at 375 it is a little more money than I want to play around with, but it is located about 150 miles from here so I might just go down and make an offer. With my luck it would work great, but tear up my drive unit...lol.

About 10 years ago, a rotating assembly for a 3.8L turbo Buick Regal was $180. I would expect that assembly today would be about what you spent for the entire turbo setup.
