Hello all,
Quick question: How to tune the standing rigging on a 1969 CAL25?
I have heard horror stories of over-tightening the shrouds and fore/backstays.

I noticed out sailing last weekend, under good wind and heeling 20-30 degrees my shrouds on the windward side were slack- too loose? When at dock- is there a way to tension the shrouds properly??

Any help would be MUCH appreciated......

Jason

Re: tuning the standing rigging

when sailing the shrouds should be loose at about 20 deg of heel. You need to have some one experienced show you the ropes, once you learn it you never forget it. You really need hands on experience to teach it! Most sailors will be glad to help you for free, just go to the marina in the morning and ask around.

Re: tuning the standing rigging

P.S. if your windward shrouds are loose, something is wrong, way wrong and your boat is breaking the laws of physics. The windward side is the side the wind hits, your leeward shrouds should be loose while sailing at 20 deg of heel.
