I HAVE AN 85 HP FORCE THAT RUNS VERY STONG EXCEPT IT IS HARD TO START AND TENDENCE TO CUT OUT WHEN PUTING IT INTO GEAR AND AT LOW IDLE . I JUST GOT THE MOTOR LAST YEAR AND NO SERIOUS MAINTINANCE HAS BEEN DONE . I AM PUTTING IT IN THE SHOP TO GET A TUNE UP DONE AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT TELLL THEM TO LOOK AT (TIMING CARBS ETC) THEFOAM INSIDE THE COWLING HAS DRY ROTTED AND I SUSPECT SOME OF THE DEBRE GOT INTO THE CARBS .SINCE NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO THE MOTOR FOR A LONG TIME SHOULD I HAVE THEM REBUILT OR JUST CLEANED OUT . I ALSO THINK THE BULB IS GETTING SOFT I AM GOING TO TEST IT, IF I PUMP THE BUB HARD HOW LONG SHOULD IT STAY HARD WHEN THE MOTOR IS NOT RUNNING . IF IT GETS SOFT WILL A CARB REBULT FIX THI

check out the reeds , a piece of the foam blanket can get stuck in a reed and hold it open giving you that dieing when you put into gear problem,......read your other post and the bulb sounds o. k. but bulbs are cheap and it wont hurt to install a new one while you have it at the shop. there are check valves in the bulb that keep the bulb firm. do you know any history of the water pump???

GETDANET, the problems you are experiencing could be nothing more than some minor tune up/carb work....but if this does not help perhaps there are the indications of deeper problems.....have your tech pull off the exhaust cover of the engine {relatively easy to do on these engines} to inspect the piston rings.....if they are stuck in the pistons, the motor will act like you say....

also you can run a can of merc's power tune thru it to clean up the pistons and combustion chamber
