Can someone explain to me what a tuliped valve is and what are likely circumstances that would cause this to occur?

Thanks,

nat

Re: tulliped Valve

A tuliped valve is one that has become misshapen & no longer seats properly....
A tuliped intake valve will cause backfire through the carb esp. under load.....
Excessive heat or 'lugging' from improper propeller pitch are the main culprits.....JK

Re: tulliped Valve

The valve no longer seats properly because it's head diameter has shrunk as the edges of the valve head were beat against the valve seat. These edges roll inward under the valve head kind of like tiny tulip petals. It's hard to describe without a valve to show you. Tuliped valves cannot be repaired and must be replaced.
