Have a 1997 Seadoo GTX . Runs fine, holesot fine, top speed fine. Question is.. Shouldn't I be able to tow a tube behind this ? 175lb. driver, 150lb. spotter, and 160lb person on the tube. When trying this it wouldn't get on plane...

it should do that and a lot more,, I suspect you may need a new pump liner, or there is a engine issue, I could pull that with a lot smaller ski . I have towed slolom skiers with a sea doo sp and tubes with a 2 seat 750 kaw, we use a gti to ski and tube all the time and it only has 85 hp as opposed to your 110 hp with the exact same hull.

Re: Tubing With A GTX

my 99 gtx is 110hp and we have lost 10mph since new. did 56mph when it was new and every year it seemed to slow down and now 8 years old, it tops out at 46mph. I don't know what to do, to get more power out of it.
It has had numerous tune-ups and impellar/o-ring around impellar replacement to try and get more speed and hasnt done anything yet.

Have always ran the expensive sea-doo 2-stroke synthetic oil and the sea doo now has 110 hours on it.
Maybe the 2-stroke motors in these just lose power after a few years?
It sort of bogs when you pin it then goes up on plane.

sorry for rambling on but this problem sucks and i'd like a little help too haha.
cheers

Have the RAVE valves been cleaned before?...some shops don't do that in their tune-ups...

Checked compression, 165 on both. Pulled RAVE valves, were pretty clean and went in and out freely. Looked in at the impeller, wear ring does not look scuffed but the leading edge of the impeller does have a larger gap than farther back on the screw. Could this be the problem?

that is typical of fuel starvation,, the carbs need to be rebuilt, there are small filters in the carbs that get clogged plus the diaphragms go bad.

Took the ski out this weekend myself and noticed that if you pin the throttle from a dead stop it takes longer than before to get on plane, but if I stab the throttle again it will pop right up. Would this be a clear indication of the need for a carb rebuild ? It runs fine otherwise. Other question would be, should it be done right away or can it wait till I bring them back from vacation in a couple of weeks. I don't want to hurt the engine because of a lean condition, but I don't really have the time right now....

Or maybe should I try to fatten up the lower speed jet about an 1/8th turn ?

usually the internal filters get clogged and hold back fuel,, if you try placing a restrictor in the return fuel line and replacing all the factory gas line clamps on the suction side of the fuel system, use adjustable stainless clamps and also try bypassing the fuel selector switch and go directly to the reserve pick up on the fuel tank, you may get it to run better for a while.
