I'm trying to separate the lower and upper gearcase to get to the drive gears. I have a 1968 6hp Evinrude and I can't seem to separate the two. Any suggestions? I don't know who owned it last or what they used to seal it. Hopefully the norm. Would heating it cause any problems? Would it even help?<br />Please help!!!!!!!!!

Re: Trying to separate upper / lower gearcase.

This unit requires you to pull the powerhead to drop the gearcase because of the rollpin spring contraption at the top of the driveshaft. Not as scary as it sounds if all the bolts come out nicely.
