Trying to get the right prop

Hi all,
I have a Sea Nymph FM161 with a 92 Evinrude 40hp with tilt n trim. Prop that is on the boat has no numbers on it that I can find. I usually expect that they will be right on the blade. Prop shows signs of having been rebuilt.
Boat is 16 feet, aluminum and is purported to weigh about 500 lbs.
72" beam
I measured from center of shaft to end of blade and it was 6", which leads me to believe that it is a 12" prop. With just me in the boat it isn't too bad but it porpoises something fierce if I trim it up too much. I am picking up a tach this weekend but it sounds like it is maxing out around 4000 rpm+/-. With 2 guys, a dog, 4 bags of decoys etc it hates to go on plane. 12" seems pretty small but I have never owned a 40 hp before. I would appreciate any thoughts.
Thanks,
Bill

Re: Trying to get the right prop

Need the info in the sticky on this forum. Prop size will prob be on the hub under the nut. Need accurate speed and RPM.
