Trying to get the HIN of a boat

I bought this fiberglass over foam 12' boat from Mr "A" who bought it from Mr. "B". Neither of them had registered the boat because they didn't have the need. Also Mr. "B" fiberglassed the transom and might have covered the HIN up with fiberglass. So couple of questions. (1) Does anyone know where I might find the HIN for this model of boat. (2) does anyone recognize the maker and maybe model that I can do some further research and figure this out.

Thanks in advance.

Did the dog come with it? If so, heck of a deal! :D

lol... Already had the dog but he is sure proud of "his" boat. Walks over to it everytime we walk into the garage. :)

Fortunately, where I will be going most often I am not required to have it registered but there are some local fishing lakes where that is not the case because they're deemed federal waters.

I think it is usually on the Stern of the boat.

You could try and register it as a homemade boat...

problem is that he painted and refiberglassed the whole back of the boat. Not sure if he covered it or not. He reshaped the front for a trolling motor and then reinforced the transom to handle the outboard.

Standard location for HINs is on the starboard transom, usually right below the gunnel.

Not sure of registration issues where you live, but in CA if you don't put a motor on it it doesn't need to be registered (on a boat of that size).

The same does apply here in Wa state for boats with a motor less then 10hp. Mine is 9.9hp. Not to get political but the problem is that since Washington can't manage their own waterways and relies on Federal money certain lakes and rivers are considered federal waterways and you need to have a boat that is registered to operate on them. I think I can get by this year but it would be fun to take my son out Salmon fishing on some of those lakes in the summer.
