Hi, I am the Oral History and Digital Project librarian for Berkeley County Library System in South Carolina. I digitize, catalog, and upload photographs and ephemera related to Berkeley County. This photo was taken at Atkins Landing in Moncks Corner. On the right is Ida Kitching from Aiken and Ruby Willis, left. On the reverse, "Saturday, October 27th" that exact combination appears in 1973, and 1979. Based on the boat's age, what year should I choose?
Thank you for your help.

I have identified makes and models of cars with less:) I believe the font of the STARCRAFT logo is a clue, the seat for the boat motor operator, (five people were fishing out of this boat), the shape of the fender on the boat trailer, the pinstripe, and I believe there is a wider band of color beneath it.

The date is the date when the picture was developed, not taken.

Pick a date, accuracy is not important. A month and year is sufficient.

The date is handwritten...as in only Saturday, October 27th, no year is given. I did the research to figure out what years October 27th fell on a Saturday. I thought 1962 was too early. 1973 or 1979 is the choice I hope to make based on some input.

could be either. even if the boat is a 40's vintage, could have been taken in either year.

not enough information in the picture to put a year to it.

Engine throttle looks similar to early mid 70's mercury but not sure how long that style ran or what age boat. B&W flash lit film photograph. Looks like 73.

I looked at the catalogs and it doesn't look '79, I would go with the '73. Earlier than that SC used plastic moldings for the name.

There is no pin stripe, thats a rub rail. They all had them.
There is no wider band of color, Starcrafts had no markings or stripes below the rub rail. Thats likely a side bunk on the trailer.
Starcraft did not make trailers, so that is no clue.

The seat for the driver ? which one would that be? Can't even tell if it is a side console, center console, or tiller model.

The boat could be 16-22' long, so pretty hard to id a model.
Without ID'ing a model, tough to id the year.

I've got this up on a 50" monitor, and enlarged, and can't see any identifying details.
So even if the boat was a 72, 73, 74, 75 ... the photo could still have been taken in '79.

So what you really want to know is "is the boat a 1974 model or newer?" That would mean the photo was taken in 79.

The only clue we have is the Starcraft logo.

From what I see, the boat is older than 1976
