Trustworthy used engine sources?

If the mods don't mind I'd like to ask for people to share information on places where they've had a good experience buying used outboard engines. I'm being a lot more cautious since being ripped off the last time (I should have insisted on a test drive and not just listening to it idle on the muffs). Someone local would be great (I'm on the northwest side of Atlanta), or a well trusted seller willing to ship would be ok.

Re: Trustworthy used engine sources?

You're located in one of the largest boating markets in the U.S.--Lakes Lanier and Allatoona area. Check the boat dealerships around Marietta and around Buford/Gainesville/Flowery Branch.

Sounds as if you've made some mistakes previously. It never hurts to pay a professional marine mechanic to do an engine analysis including checking the compression and doing a pressure test on the lower unit after draining the lower unit grease.

Worse comes to worse, see LanierMarine.com--Lake Lanier Liquidators NE of Buford. They have hundreds of engines taken off salvaged hulls.

Have you ever dealt with them? Just wondering 'cause I've read some horror stories.
