Truly Bulk quanitity fuel stabilizer?

I have about 800 gallons of gasoline that needs to be stored for winter spread out between 4 boats, 4 jetskis and a couple of 275 gallon fuel storage tanks. Using the recommended dose, I need about 32 gallons of stabilizer. The boats/storage tanks are part of a rental business and they will NOT be used again for about 3.5 months.

I've read several stabilizer-related threads on the forums that all seem to turn into debates... I'm just looking for anyone who knows how to get this stuff in large quantities - I see it as insurance, whether or not it's strictly necessary.

Thanks folks.

I think we need to look over the math a little before you get the stabilizer.
I looked up Sta-Bil just because it is the most well known. The instructions say 1 fl. oz. per 2.5 gallon of gas.
In your case that works out to 800/2.5 = 320 fl. oz. or 2.5 gallons.
This is a much more reasonable amount and I think you just got the math wrong somewhere.

When I read it I thought that it sounded like an awful lot of stabilizer.

Hope this helps and makes it a lot more manageable.

Wow, I must have totally screwed up my math. According to the website, 128oz (1 gallon) treats 320 gallons. At $100/gallon for stabilizer, I'm looking at about $250 to treat $2600 worth of gas. That's a bit expensive, but it's not recreational money, it's business.

Thanks for the link, that's very helpful.

Ha I should have looked at your math first. 250 is much more reasonable but Bubbas link is a much better deal.

Regular stabil is 95% Naptha - you can buy that in gallons for $15 at Menards.

The layup/storage recommendation for MARINE Sta-bil is 1 oz per 5 gallons = 160 oz. = 1.25 gal. I started using the marine stuff when I realized it was cheaper to use then the red.

It costs about 20 bucks a quart. Amazon sell a six-pack for a little under $90. You can buy by the gallon, too.

Thanks, Guys. I just ordered 2 gallons of PRI for the "fleet". Ironically, I've never winterized my two personal boats because I use them all year. I figure if a boat sits for too long without a fishing trip, I'm doing something wrong.:joyous:
