Is it possible to use a megger to check stator charging coil? Manual says resistance is 270-340 ohms, I get 71 ohms, pretty sure it's bad, just want to be sure, stator already has been removed from motor. Thanks

Ok i tried testing with megger, set megger @ 200 mega ohms, hooked up leads to blach/red and green wires and tested, analog meter pegged the scale, this is showing windings are shorted together, does this sound about right?

A megger reads high resistance not low.
It uses a higher voltage than a ohm meter and looks for leakage
200 ohms on a megger set at 200 Megohms will show as shorted
1 megohm = 1 million ohms

Re: Troubleshooting Suzuki dt200 stator

Thanks for responding 99yam40, checked resistance on new stator and its basically the same at 69 ohms, so my stator should be ok at 71 ohms, my next test will be peak voltage test..

Make sure you use the proper meter or a DVA adapter

Re: Troubleshooting Suzuki dt200 stator

Just to update I removed stator and discovered oil residue all over stator from filling oil tank in water and moving with waves, I could not shut engine off at the time cause my lower unit would not go back in gear without a great deal of effort(grinding in forward) well after getting lower unit fixed (which was caused by bad cable which led to screwing up clutch dog) is when starting was a problem(weak spark), I bought new stator cleaned all trigger coils with solvent cleaned residue off fly wheel magnets, put together and it started, this made my day, I would not think a little film of sticky oil would cause this problem, but what do I know. When I fist had problem with spark and it would not run I used a screwdriver in plug boot and shorted to spark plug to see spark and it started this way, it would not start unless I did screwdriver trick, but now it starts no problem now clean and new stator, I guess if I cleaned old stator it probably would work. I just am baffled with the whole ordeal.... Thanks again 99yam40 any thoughts?

Re: Troubleshooting Suzuki dt200 stator

without testing with the proper equipment there is no way of knowing what the voltages in and out of the CDI were, so who knows.
I do not see where an sticky oil film will stop electrons from flowing properly unless it was dragging down the speed that the motor was turning over
