I have a 25hp Mariner outboard motor, its an 81 with electric start.Modle # 7025520
serial # 695-55523.
Everything has been fine with it up to today. I went out in some pretty mucky water and my pee hole was cloged and caued my engine to get hot and lose power. At which time I turned it off... Not noticeing that I had no water discharge from the pee hole, I waited for 30 mins and it fired up again. Taking no further chances I headed back to the dock, and it lost power again and started to shut down. After getting it home and flushing it out I noticed the pee hole problem and cleard the hole. But I now seem to have a problem with my mixture. I cant keep it running, and have a hard time adjuting the mixture and idle. Its not over heating, and I can keep it running as long as I control the trougtole. The problem is when I think I have it and start turning down the idol it flats out on me. The mix was fine when I started out this morning. I always crank it up at the house before leaving to make sure there are no problems.I use high octain gas and the proper oil mixture. Anyone have any ideas for me?

Howdy, Das_Boot.

Welcome to iboats. :)

First thing is a compression check. You should get over 90psi on both cylinders and they should not differ by more than 10psi. Let us know the results.

Stop using high octane gas. It costs more and it is lower quality for an outboard than regular.

Good luck. :)

JB,
Did the pressure test today; just got the equipment to do it. The top cylinder reads 55psi and the bottom reads 125psi. Please help.
