Are the carburator blades supposed to be all the way open at WOT? mine are not, if i were to guess they are at about 60% throttle... now that i have fixed the tach im only getting 44-4600 rpms out of it. i tried to adjust the cable to open them up, and once i do this it will not idle lower than about 3k rpms. what do i need to do to get the blades open and the idle down to where it should be? btw i have it set now so that it idles where it should but only opens up to about 60% throttle when it should be WOT

Thanks,
David

At wide open throttle the throttle plates need to be perfectly horizontal in the carb throat. You do not adjust the cable to make this happen. You thought by adjusting the cable you could put more pull on the linkage. That obviously happened, but by doing that you prevent the throttle from returning to idle. There is a process called link & sync that accomplishes throttle opening, throttle pickup and timing synchronization. They are all related and must be done exactly. The throttle cable needs to be disconnected, the link & sync done, and then the cable adjusted properly. You need a service manual for the link & sync as its far too long to go into here. As for the cable, disconnect it, Then briing the attachment point back up to the throttle linkage while holding the throttle linkage against the idle stop. If the attachment points don't line up, adjust the trunion (threaded barrel) until they do. Do not push or pull anything to make things line up. When perfectly aligned, connect the cable.
