Hi everyone, I'm new here and I apologise in advance if this is the wrong thread to post in but i'm having a few issues with trying to start my Tohatsu 3.5 hp (m3.5b2) and was wondering if any of you guys could help.

It hasn't been used for a couple of years now and I found it in the garage and really want to get it going again. After being sat in my shed it's no wonder it didn't start - I have now cleaned the carburettor, checked the impeller, bought a new spark plug and still the thing won't fire, I've taken the spark plug out and earthed it against the engine but still no luck with getting a spark.

I've seen similar threads about disconnecting the ignition kill switch to test it but was not quite sure how to do that? Do I just disconnect the 2 wires leading from the stop switch?

I'm not sure what to do next, if anyone can give me any pointers i would be very grateful.

Thanks a lot

Welcome to Iboats.

Hugo do you have a spark ? Probably can't see it jumping at daylight, check it at night, at a dark garage.

You must clean the fuel **** located at outside fuel tank. There's a small mesh filter, probably clogged. Clean fuel tank, before connecting fuel hose to carb, check you have a good fuel flow through hose, if so then connect to carb.

Check that plug cap metal contact is clean and shinny, if corroded, too rusty change cap, check all grounds to be clean and shinny making good contact with powerhead.

If you disconnect stop switch wires engine will start, will need to pull choke for engine to die,

Happy Boating
