I would like to either sell the 1996 Johnson 9.9 4 stroke outboard Model J10FRLEDCJohnson as is or repair then sale it. It runs for awhile then starts sputtering and missing. I've posted here before trying to get expertise on repair of this engine but since have purchased a replacement. If you can tell me what it's worth as is that would be great. If you can help me repair it inexpensively then if repaired tell me what it's worth that would be great. Here's where I'm at. I've rebuilt the carb and fuel pump. I"ve changed all the spark plugs and plug wires. I've taken the stator, ignition coil, and power pack off and the wire harnesses appear in good shape. I placed a timing light on the plug wires to see if both plugs were firing and if when it sputters both are impacted. Both plugs were impacted so it appears the issue is above the ignition coil. Using a repair manual and a Fluke 117 RMS type multimeter I made several checks. On this model the charge coil, and power coil are mounted on the stator. As per the manual I checked the two power leads coming off the stator. It said if I ground the multimeter to a good ground and check each of the two charge coil leads while cranking the outboard I should not get any voltage. I did get voltage readings on both leads which supposedly means there is a short. I checked the peak voltage produced by both of these leads and peak voltage was 244 volts which I assume is good. I checked the power pack output where it connects to the ignition coil. It is supposed to get a peak reading of about 220V. I only had a couple volt reading. I am baffled by this reading because the engine will run for awhile even with this low voltage. I"ve talked to a few marine mechanics and they said that the stator rarely fails that it is usually the power pack. I don't want to put a bunch of money into this. If I can repair it inexpensively the sell it I'll do that. If not I need to figure out what it's worth as is. Can anyone help me out either by letting me know what it might be worth or how to repair in preparation for sell.
Thanks
