Re: Trouble replacing u-joints on volvo DP-A
Just so you know where all this info came from,
SP/DP-A-C Manual #7731624
Pre-stressing new bearings: 10–15 N (2,20–3,30 lbs).
Prestressing used bearings: 7,5–10 N (1,6–2,2 lbs).
SP/DP-D & E Manuals 7797368 and 7797525
Preload new bearings to at least 500 grams minimum and 1000 grams maximum.
Preload used bearings to 500 grams minimum and 800 grams maximum.
SX/DPS
9-14 in. lb. (1,0-1,6 N•m) Manual 7743008
This is for used or new bearings nothing noting any difference in the service manuals.
The bearings are the same ones in all of the above drives, (3850852-3850853) and the double bearing box is aluminum in all versions.
The rolling torque is set using weight measurements in the first 2, the last it is done by a torque wrench using rolling torque.
The older style drives had different settings for used and new bearings, not so the SX/DPS version.
If this was my DP-A drive, By comparing the D&E weight measurements, I would use the SX method and keep the rolling torque in the 9 to 10 range and think nothing of it, but now you know how I would choose my numbers.
