trouble reinstalling volvo outdrive

my buddy is having trouble reinstalling his drive He has done it himself yhe past couple of years with no problem it goes as far as the splineto the front of the flywheel i beleive it is the motor alignment and i had him check with my mercruiser tool i couldnt verify it for him because i broke my hand hr has the manual for the boat ANY IDEAS??????? THANKS

Is he trying to install the hole drive or just the uper trans.
Im thinking trans.

Ok this is what you do.
Put down some carboard on the outdrive
lay the trans on its side on the carboard
guide the spline in and
Move it around and push. keep working it it will go in
