Good afternoon. New to the forums and There is a lot of great information here! I have located my engine's thermostat and it appears to not be operating properly (testing it boiling water). I cannot seem to find a replacement part (for either the kit or the thermostat) when searching. I see a 25hp but only model years '69-'94 are listed and the picture description (unknown how accurate these are) do not look like what I have. I know there is a thermostat there but need to find a replacement and there is no part number indicated on the part itself. Any help with this?

Looks like the whole assembly is NLA.. Could try ebay or the like if looking for the whole assembly.
Parts for the thermostat assembly seem to be available though, if you can/want to rebuild it.. I'd consider that myself...

Lastly, that model number corresponds to a 1997 25 hp...
Maybe others have a different line on the whole assembly for it, but looks like it'd be pretty easy to rebuild...

Hope that helps even if just a little.... :)

(Edit: Part number for the whole assembly is: 0436079 THERMOSTAT AY)

Thanks jbuote! I did type 1996 by accident and will correct that. I wouldn't have an issue rebuilding if I can find the correct vernatherm since I have it apart right now anyways.

Wouldn't that be part 14 in the diagram for the parts breakdown? That is available here on iBoats too!
Isn't that what you're looking for?

Vernatherm is on order. After letting it sit on hot water for a while it appears to be opening up normally. This engine has not been operated for about a year or so and it looks like there was some hard deposits inside the housing that were preventing a good flow. After cleaning it up, I've got a nice solid flow from the pisser.

Is this a new to you engine or have you had it all along, just not run it in a while?
Either way, if it's sat for a year or so, probably consider changing the water pump impellor even though you have good flow now..
(If you haven't already that is... LOL) :biggrin1:

It's "new to me". I ordered 2 impellers and a water pump rebuild kit from here late last week because I know it will need to be replaced about once a season (100 hours or so). I like having spare parts :)

HAHA!! I did the same thing with my flywheel key.. It was sheared (I found out) after I bought it.. So, I got 2 keys in case It ever shears again... lol.
Well, sounds like you're well on your way!
Still a relative newbie myself. Bought my first boat last august, so creeping on a year.. lol...
But for basic stuff, and help finding parts, maybe some wiring etc.. feel free to reach out!

So many pro's on here it's crazy.. I just like to try and help others where and how I can as a way to try and "Repay" the help I've gotten, and will get in the future here..

Great group in this forum!!

Hope you get to enjoy it on the water soon!! :D
