Re: trophy striper season

I'm gearing up for the trophy season here in the Hudson river. Last year state record of 55lbs and change was caught about an hour south of me. It broke a record set just two years prior. No doubt in my mind there are 60's in the river every year and it's just a matter of time. As for depth I put a pair of Cannon Uni-Troll HP on my boat last year. They are manual but we drag sticks at 17-25 feet here and it's no big deal. I used them for lake trout at 90-110 and that was work!! Big stripers in the river here seem to come on live herring, eels, or chunk bait on a finder rig. Nothing like the song of drag on a 6500C3 when you set the hook on a good fish. My PB is just over 30 but my goal this year is 40+. Tight lines and good luck!

Re: trophy striper season

I'll be gearing up for striper fishing the first of April.
The fish here don't arrive till May. We do get some big fish.
Usually the locale tournament fish is around #50lbs.
Our season seems to start as soon as the mackerel arrive and then we use them live lining and we catch some big fish. When the mack's leave we switch to chunk baiting herring and an orcasional
eel.
