Re: trophy season this weekend!
well, i'm new to this, but here's what i've read and been told...

striper, or rock as they are called down here, are currently in the bay, hanging out and ready to spawn. when nature says so, they will begin. weather plays a big part. once it warms up enough, the big fish spawn and hang out for a bit. if it warms too fast, they can spawn and exit the bay in just 48 hrs, which results in many unhappy fishermen. if we get a slow warm, like last year, the trophy season can last 4-5 weeks. this year may be another great year. if we get a slow warm, the bay will have a constant supply of pre and post spawn fish. when the trophy season ends, usually in mid to late may in a good year, the big fish head to the ocean and up your way. we can still catch the smaller and few large stripers that call the bay their home, but most of the big ones go away. so you can see why it's such a big deal here.
