I have a 19" pitch aluminum prop on my 90hp merc that pushes a 19' bayliner bass trophy boat and can still run over 5500rpms. Want to try 21' SS, looking at a trophy plus 4 blade prop #48-825934A46-21P, is this a bad choice?

Your going to lose 400+ rpms if you go to the 21P Trophy....
That prop may be a little to much for a 90hp Merc.

But try it out... Hopefully you can work out a deal with whoever you buy it from, that will allow you to return it if it's not the right choice.

mellowyellow, I believe that currently I can run higher rpms than what is recommended. My WOT is between 5500-6000rpms, I think I should be more in the range of 5000-5500. I don't run at WOT because I think I'm over revving, thought a 21" pitch might drop the rpms to the proper range and give me a couple more mph. There are a lot of props to choose from, any ideas? mellowyellow, I got out my manual for my 2002 90hp 2 stroke and in the specifications section is reads 5000-55000 full throttle rpm range. It also has 115hp and 125hp specifications for full throttle rpm range as 4750-5250

My 2 cents......prop for 5500+ with your normal load. If, say, 5600 is the r's you can turn now, leave it. You will be dissapointed unless you are turning way over 5500 now. If you get close to 6k now, try the 21", otherwise I think you will wish you had the 19" on. More pitch isn't always more speed-many more variables involved. :)
