I have a 22 foot searay bowrider...21 degree "V" with a mercruiser 5.0 MPI (260 HP) alpha 1. Boat weighs 4350 pounds. Boat comes from Sea Ray with a 14X19 Mercury Vengence stainless. WOT rpm is about 4750 but hole shot is weak. I am looking for a good 4 blade 14X17 to improve hole shot. I was considering purchasing the Solis Titan 4 blade. Without me knowing my wife ordered a 14X17 Trophy Plus 4 blade. Can anyone give me any feedback on this prop. Is it a good prop for a stern drive runabout?

Thanks

Re: Trophy Plus 4 blade...

Called the seller and cancelled the above deal. The Trophy Plus will not work for me. :%

Any suggestion as to what type 4 blade would do well on my boat?

Re: Trophy Plus 4 blade...

Well it's a deep v I/O so it will benefit from lift, Walleyehed could be far more benefical here, but Stilletto Bay Pro's provide a lot of lift, by your above figure's id say a 16 pitch would do the job,

Dont let the 16p throw ya, the prop's have lot's of cupping. In the end it should lift the boat quite high off the water, creating less wetted surface, less drag and more speed, along with a improved hole shot and better midrange punch.

:} Opp's look's like they dont (precision) make a prop for that leg, Question do you have a rubber hub on that boat?

My current prop has a flo-torque II. I believe the shaft is a 15 spline.

Well according to i=boat's there ya go, I wasnt able to find that prop on Stilleto's site but if you decide to go in that direction id give them a call 1-800-944-4576 at make sure of compatability

That prop gave me a 5 mph increase over a alum prop, the orignal alum was a 19 pitch and i went to a 20p 4 blade, result's were a much smoother feel from the engine and the boat, elevated the boat out of the water high enough to cause a chine walk (speed helped to) hole shot is very strong and a noticable tug in midrange performance.

Tail Gunner,
Thanks for the recommendation.
I have decided to give the Silletto Bay Pro III a try. Looks like the hull on your boat is very similar to the hull I have on my sea ray. I am going down 2 inches in pitch to avoid loosing rpms at top end. I hope to have it by this weekend and will let you know how it performs on my boat.

Thanks again....Doug

Re: Trophy Plus 4 blade...

Ok. I called and spoke to Precision Propeller this am. The prop I want is the bay pro II and it comes in even pitches and 18 is the lowest. I can get a bay pro III 14X17 but the bay pro III is for offshore use and is for rough water conditions and larger heavier boats (mostly stern lift I think). I prefer the bay pro II because it is more for all around use with good holeshot and overall boat lift and an emphasis on bow lift. I am now considering the solis titan 4 blade 14X17 again. I am trying not to loose any rpms and if I picked up a couple hundred I would still be under my 5000 limit. Here are my options:
Bay Pro II 14X18 4 blade
Bay Pro III 14X17 4 blade
Solis Titan 14X17 4 blade

Tail Gunner - your stilletto is the Bay Pro II (even pitch) right?

Re: Trophy Plus 4 blade...

Simple bay pro 111 no question. the 17 will act like a 18 pitch 3 blade, the 18 will act like a 19.
If your boat responds like mine at all the 17 is the answer, stilletto will let you switch but i am sure of what i am saying here. the 17 baypro 111 should give you a bif hole shot. speed and smoothness.

I Wish i could have gone to a Bay Pro 3, it offer's a 21 pitch which should have put me dead on and 55-56 mph.

Yes they do provide a ton of stern lift, the boat actually ride's so high there is no wake at all on the side's @ wot straight out the back,............ 8) I can actually trim it enough to shoot a 8' rooster with a I/O..... I dont think that is good for the drive though....:}

Re: Trophy Plus 4 blade...

Tail Gunner, I called stiletto again this morning. The customer service girl (Kathlene) put me on the phone with one of their techs and his name is Steve. He said based on my rpms and my overall boating needs that I should buy the advantage II 3 blade 14X17. He said the advantage II 14x17 will give me a better holeshot and will bite better than the mercury vengence so my rpms shouldnt go much above my max of 5000 with an average load. He said if I really want a 4 blade it would have to be the bay pro II which the lowest pitch I can get is an 18. He said rpms should stay about the same as my 19 pitch mercury vengence but would not gain any.
He strongly advised against the bay pro III. He said it is specifically designed for rough water off shore use. He said is has large rounded blades with very little rake. He said it will lift the stern and lower the bow. He said bow could be 3 or 4 inches lower than with the vengence. He said the bay pro III is very inefficient on a deep running stern drive and should really be used on high horsepower outboards where they can be raised closer to the surface where they are designed to maintain bite in rough water conditions.

I wish I had some test props to run.

Re: Trophy Plus 4 blade...

That was intresting, i have had them both, while i did get more top end from the 3 blade it was not as good out of the hole as the 4 blade, however id do agree on one point, if a 17 is not availbe an 18 may be to much.

Ya know what, id follow his advice maybe the baypro 111 is a different prop than the 11, Hmm if you want to be done with this, you could alway's get a enertia from ebay, cheapest price's i have seen are to be had there. A 19 should kick some arse both in speed and hole shot, Walleyehed alway's had good thing's to say about that prop Dont let the 19 p fool you, it should actually raise your rpm a 100 or so, give you better top end and pull like a hard

Im really surprised the two Bay Pro's are differnt props
